From Postdoc to Possibility

A hands-on workshop for postdocs and academics ready to identify their value, position their skills, and explore career opportunities beyond universities.

Why do you need this workshop?

  • Endless short-term contracts

  • Pressure to publish

  • Constant job insecurity

  • Uncertainty about what roles exist beyond universities

A common question is: “What job fits my discipline?”

Unfortunately, this question keeps you stuck because outside of universities, employers don’t hire disciplines. They hire problem-solvers.

This workshop is designed for postdocs, early career researchers, and other academics who are thinking about moving beyond academia and exploring alternative career paths.

It will help you identify the problems you’re trained to solve and translate your experience effectively. It will show you how to access new roles in industry, policy, nonprofits, and beyond.

What you'll learn

In this 90-minute practical workshop, you’ll:

  • Learn how to identify your transferable expertise and map it to real-world problems

  • Discover which organisations and sectors value your skills the most

  • Translate your research and academic experience into clear, compelling professional language

  • Complete a mini-exercise that shows exactly how your skills match real-world roles

  • Understand the next steps for positioning yourself for applications and interviews

By the end of the workshop, you’ll leave with a new perspective and actionable tools .
